IRVINGTON, N.Y., August 30, 2026 — On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Irvington will host a remarkable afternoon of public programming that invites visitors to reflect on how Americans have remembered, interpreted, and celebrated the nation’s founding across generations. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., IRVRW250 Capital for a Day will present a village-wide commemoration in Memorial Park, adjacent to the historic Odell Tavern site and the Old Croton Aqueduct. The afternoon will feature family activities centered on the lives of tenant farmers, enslaved people, and everyday families of the Revolutionary period. Local organizations will present educational displays exploring different aspects of the Revolutionary War, while volunteers and community partners help bring the event to life. The program will also include remarks by local dignitaries honoring Irvington’s significance as “Capital for a Day,” along with re-enactors portraying George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and other Revolutionary-era figures, as well as period-inspired music and dancing.
