Knox’s Headquarters State Historic Site (289 Forge Hill Road, Vails Gate, NY) will be open for two special holiday open house events on Saturday December 13, 2025, and Saturday December 20, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each evening. Visit this historic house decorated for the season in the 18th century manner with greenery. Visitors can explore the house and interact with interpreters in 18th century costume who will tell story of the house and how people in the Revolutionary War era celebrated Christmas and the Holiday season. Events are free and registration is not required. Knox’s Headquarters was constructed in 1754 for the Ellison family. For two Christmases during the Revolutionary War, John and Catherine Ellison shared their home with the officers and soldiers of the Continental Army. Over the winter of 1780-81, General Henry Knox, his wife Lucy and their children Henry and Lucy were there, while two years later it was General Horatio Gates and his military family of aides de camp who shared in the season’s festivities.
