Neutral Ground Westchester County in the Revolution Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Historian & Author Stephen P. DeVillo After the 1776 Battle of White Plains, Westchester County became known as “Neutral Ground.” But there would be no peace here. Occupied by neither side, in between the British holding New York City to the south and the Continental Army in the Hudson Highlands to the north, it was a place where no one could safely remain neutral amid clashes by detachments of the contending armies, as well as violence by groups of bandits, vigilantes and partisans. Westchester County was a place of constant threat. No one was totally safe. Neighbors might become enemies. Oftentimes, one couldn’t be certain where allegiances lay - if there were actually allegiances at all. Who was a patriot? Who was a loyalist? Who might be a spy? Who was only out for themselves? Join us, with local historian Stephen Paul DeVillo, author of the book: Westchester County in the American Revolution, as we examine and learn more about Westchester County’s divided Revolutionary history. At The Lincoln Depot Museum 10 S. Water St. Peekskill, NY Program at 2:00 pm Museum Doors Open at 1:00 pm
