Sunday Salon Tour: Black Labor & Legacy at the Historic Property

Sunday Salon Tour: Black Labor & Legacy at the Historic Property Jun 14, 2026 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Location: 218 Spring Street, Catskill, NY 12414 Website: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/thomascole/items/471101/?full-items=yes&flow=no Email: tickets@thomascole.org Phone: 518-943-7465 ext. 122

Explore the historic property with a Museum Educator to learn about the often-hidden experiences of labor on the historic property, different perspectives on land, anti-Black policies, and the ways in which Black Catskill residents mobilized and formed abolitionist circles in the 19th century. The Thomson family, into whom Thomas Cole married, enslaved people from at least 1790 until 1820. In 1815, the Federal-style Main House that remains today was built by a group that likely included enslaved laborers. Ongoing research is being done on our Site to collect and share stories of the Site’s enslavement history, and the people who labored and worked to make life for Thomas Cole and this household possible.
