As most of you surely know, 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. To commemorate the anniversary of this tragic event, the FASNY Museum of Firefighting’s Assistant Curator, Lauryn Czyzewski, will share a presentation titled Hidden Heroes: Extraordinary Stories of Courage from 9/11 at the Kinderhook Memorial Library on Thursday, September 10th at 6:00 pm. The library’s address is 18 Hudson Street, Kinderhook, NY. This is a free event. The heroism of FDNY firefighters on 9/11 has been greatly highlighted over the years, and rightfully so. In the shadows, however, there exists other 9/11 hero stories that are sometimes overlooked. This presentation details many of these stories, including the story of a New York State volunteer firefighter known as The Man in the Red Bandanna. Lauryn Czyzewski is the Assistant Curator at the FASNY Museum of Firefighting in Hudson, NY. She graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeological Studies and minors in History, Anthropology, and Museum Studies. Ms. Czyzewski previously presented Forged by Fire: The Life and Legacy of Harry Howard at the Hudson and East Greenbush Libraries.
