Mount Gulian Historic Site 50th Anniversary and History Dinner Jun 7, 2025 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM Location: 145 Sterling Street, Beacon, NY 12508 Email: info@mountgulian.org Phone: 8458318172

The evening will showcase a catered affair, including a sumptuous four-course dinner inspired by von Steuben’s Prussian origins. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served on the scenic riverside lawn prior to dinner. Actor Bob Gleason, of the American Historical Theatre, will portray our honored guest. Diners will be invited to experience the world of our newly-forming nation and the Continental Army through the eyes of this knowledgeable and indispensable drillmaster. After arriving at Valley Forge in February 1778, General von Steuben immediately noticed the disorganization and poor living conditions of the Continental Army. Following his appointment to Inspector General in May 1778, von Steuben restructured how the armies were organized and how they trained. In 1782, Gen. von Steuben was headquartered at Mount Gulian, the home of the Verplanck family. With the Battle of Yorktown won the year prior, von Steuben’s crucial task was to make plans to disband the Continental Army and create a plan for our newly-born nation’s military moving forward. In 1783, von Steuben was present at Mount Gulian for the founding meeting of the Society of the Cincinnati, our nation’s oldest veterans’ organization. The dinner, prepared by Bridgecreek Catering, will be served in Mount Gulian’s 18th century Dutch barn. Tickets are $185 per person. Prepaid reservations are required by May 16, 2025.
