Celebrate our nation's 250th: Join us reading a classic Albany text and explore how historians expand the past with artifacts & archives. Join us for a special Ten Broeck Mansion book club celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States! Using noted historian Alice Kenney's classic Albany: Crossroads of Liberty (published for the nation's bicentennial celebration in 1976) as our starting point, we will explore this text together. Questions we will consider include: What was Albany's role in the American Revolution? What makes Albany such a unique American story? What is Albany's identity? How do museums and historians tell inclusive stories, drawing on new sources? Participants will be invited to search our online digitized resources, and suggest additions to Kenney's study, as more resources have become available in the 50 years since the book was published. When you register, a Zoom link will be sent you to join us for the 2 discussion dates (see reading schedule below). We will meet for an online discussion on March 24 and March 31 from 7pm - 8 pm. Our virtual book club is unique: the book is FREE. How to obtain a book: 1) Pick up the free book in the Ten Broeck Mansion garden kiosk (off our parking lot at 136 Livingston Avenue) starting on February 17 through March 23, Monday through Friday, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.
