Author Shirley L. Green presents the fascinating history of the Frank brothers, free men of color, who served in the Rhode Island Regiment. Q & A and reception to follow. Albert A. Capellini Community & Cultural Center 1974 Commerce Street, Nutrition Center Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 Followed on May 2 by The Battle of Pines Bridge A commemoration and tribute to the members of the Rhode Island Regiment who died defending the Pines Bridge crossing of the Croton River on May 14, 1781. African American and Native American soldiers and Colonel Christopher Greene fought together in this desperate battle. The history of the Rhode Island Regiment embodies the racial and ethnic melting pot that represents America’s greatest strength and her greatest trials. The mixed fighting unit, made up of men of European, African, and Native American descent, was not common until the American military officially integrated nearly two centuries later.
