After the demonstrations enlist in the Continental army, drill with wooden muskets, and get paid for your service. Blacksmith, medical and cooking demonstrations on both days. The program runs from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Free admission! Co-located with the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, New Windsor Cantonment is located at 374 Temple Hill Road (Route 300) New Windsor New York, just three miles south of the intersection of I-87 and I-84. For more information please call (845) 562-7141 ext. 22. When the Continental army arrived in New Windsor at the end of October 1782, the town became the second largest city in New York. From the standing timber, over 7,000 soldiers constructed approximately 600 log buildings on the ridges to the west of the Hudson River to shelter themselves from the winter snow and cold.
