Barrens Birding Blitz at Albany Pine Bush
Sep 20, 2025 6:00 AM to 1:30 PM Location: 195 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205 Website: https://albanypinebush.org/index.php?section=visit-calendar&evtid=1985This team birding competition will take place from 6am-12pm, culminating in an awards ceremony and light refreshments in the Discovery Center at 12:30pm.
The Birding Barrens Blitz will keep in guidance with the American Birding Association Code of Ethics. Birdwatchers of all skill levels are invited to participate from novice to expert.
Both traversing and sit & spot teams will cover different regions of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, each contributing to full coverage of the preserve, hiking trails in all regions. The teams' eyes and ears will provide a snapshot of the birds in the preserve, and teams will compete to spot and identify as many species as possible in the time allotted.
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve has approximately 200 bird species who call the pine barrens home. The preserve is a New York State Bird Conservation Area, a National Audubon Society Important Bird Area & part of the New York State Birding Trail.
