Event Type Walk/Hike Description The 2.5-mile hike is led by New York New Jersey Trail Conference volunteers and will explore the quarries and surrounding natural areas at Sylvan Glen Park Preserve. The Mohegan Quarry operated from 1890-1941 and supplied honey-colored granite for several buildings in New York City, including the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Some of the abandoned cables, machinery, and building foundations are still visible along the trails.
