About

Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area

The Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area (HRVNHA) was created by Congress in 1996 and works to preserve and enhance the region’s cultural and recreational treasures. Its operations are managed by the Hudson River Valley Greenway.

Stretching from Yonkers to Troy, the region has played a significant role in American history for over 250 years. It’s known for its role in the American Revolution, the development of the nation’s commerce, the creation of a distinctly American style of art, and movements that advanced freedom. Visitors can explore these themes and more at 106 heritage sites within the National Heritage Area.

HRVNHA is one of 62 National Heritage Areas in the United States. Each National Heritage Area tells a unique story and supports the historic preservation, natural resource conservation, recreation, heritage tourism, and educational projects of its community. To learn more about National Heritage Areas, visit www.nps.gov/subjects/heritageareas.
