Event Type Historic Site Tour/History Description While excavating the Gardener's Cottage ruins, volunteers discovered a poem about Springside that local scholars believe contains the clues to Matthew Vassar's hidden treasure. Join volunteers of Springside Landscape Restoration for a guided tour of Andrew Jackson Downing's historic landscape and receive a copy of the treasure hunt poem and site map for further exploration and amusement. Springside is a 20-acre designed landscape and historic site that was once the county estate of Matthew Vassar and is the only landscape of Andrew Jackson Downing to survive largely intact.
