Details

Event Type Historic Site Tour/History Description Join Shannon Butler, Historian for the Poughkeepsie Public Library District, for a walking tour of Springside National Historic Landmark. Springside, laid out by prominent Hudson Valley landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing, was designed to be a beautifully landscaped retreat for local brewer and philanthropist, Matthew Vassar. Today the site’s paths are still preserved to give us an idea of how Downing wanted people to use and enjoy the land. These outdoor tours require lots of walking so dress accordingly, with appropriate footwear.
