Event Type Walk/Hike Description Explore the grounds of Montgomery Place, the National Historic Site developed in 1805 by Janet Livingston Montgomery to honor her late husband, General Richard Montgomery who was killed at the Battle of Quebec on December 31, 1776. The property, which is now part of the Bard College campus, encompasses 380 acres and includes such historic highlights as 18th century fruit orchards, a landscape influenced by A.J. Downing, buildings designed by A.J. Davis, as well as plantings and gardens designed and managed by ground breaking horticulturists Alexander Gilson and Violetta White Delafield. Our guided tour will take in majestic views of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River as we walk along pathways lined with several “Witness Trees” documented to have been alive at least 250 years ago before the American Revolution. This is an easy walk over slightly sloping ground with even footing. Please wear comfortable shoes. Long sleeves tops and pants are encouraged.
