Event Type Paddle Description Launch from Norrie Point Marina and paddle the historic waters once navigated by the Wappinger people in dugout canoes, following the same "Muhheconneok" (waters that are never still) that shaped centuries of Hudson Valley life. This 4-mile round-trip kayak tour traces the shoreline to Bard Rock at the Vanderbilt Mansion, where we will stop for a break and admire the view from the edge of the Vanderbilt Mansion estate grounds. We will share information ranging from Indigenous fishing techniques and seasonal ceremonies to the Gilded Age transformation of the river valley into "Millionaire's Row." You'll explore how this vital waterway evolved from a Native American lifeline rich with sturgeon and shad to a corridor of commerce and wealth, while discovering the Hudson River School art movement it inspired and the ecological renewal that allows today's paddlers to safely enjoy these storied waters. 4 hour round-trip tour with a break at Bard Rock. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt National Historic Site. *13 and up, previous paddling experience suggested.
