Rocky & Land: Unit Overview

Rocky and Land's Hudson River Adventure utilizes two dolls, Rocky and Land, The River School's mascots, as guides for the children's cross-curricular studies. Students study the river's ecosystem including animal and plant life. In addition, they study the people and communities of the Hudson Valley.

Life as a Munsee Child

This field trip provides students with a hands-on experience of what it was like to be a child in the Munsee nation. Students grind corn into flower, dress in Native American clothing, explore a longhouse, and play Native American games. The goal is to illustrate the connection that the first citizens of the Hudson Valley had to the land, the river, and the forests.

Riverama

Students learn about the course of the Hudson, its surroundings and the life it supports during a field trip to the Hudson River Museum. They then recreate the Hudson River in the classroom to reinforce comprehension of the lesson content and concepts.
